Joey’s Journey: Leading with Strength and Purpose

Joey's Journey: Leading with Strength and Purpose Our Executive Director, Joey, is facing a new chapter in his own cancer journey. His story is a powerful reminder of why our mission, to ease the financial burden of cancer for patients and families across Northeast Georgia, matters more than ever.

Joey’s Message

"After 24 years in remission, I have recently been diagnosed with a relapse of osteosarcoma, the same cancer I was first diagnosed with at age 10 and treated for through my teenage years. A recent biopsy confirmed that the tumor in my lungs is a high-grade malignancy, meaning it is aggressive and fast-growing.

I have not yet started treatment, but I will begin oral chemotherapy soon and am currently being evaluated for surgery or radiation. As I step into this next chapter, I do so with clarity, resilience, and a strong support system.

Professionally, I remain fully committed to my role as Executive Director of The Cancer Foundation. This diagnosis has only deepened my connection to our mission: alleviating the financial burden of cancer for patients and families across Northeast Georgia. The work we do has always mattered to me, but now it carries an even greater sense of urgency and personal meaning.

I am fortunate to work alongside an exceptional team, and I am grateful for the strength of our staff, board, and community partners. I will continue to lead with intention while making space for rest, treatment, and recovery."

Our Mission in Action

Every day, The Cancer Foundation provides critical financial support to families facing the overwhelming costs of cancer care. Because of the generosity of our community, so far this year we have:

  • Helped over 612 families

  • Delivered more than $435,791 of financial support

  • Provided nearly 6,500 meals

  • Serve patients across 25 counties in Northeast Georgia.

Joey's journey reminds us that behind every diagnosis is a family fighting not just the disease, but the financial toll it brings.
